A few decades later, the story lives on in frequent re-runs of the movie on television and, it would seem, fathers joyously asking their twins to simply stand at the end of a very long hallway as unsuspecting travelers happen upon their presence.
The thought is hilarious to anyone who has ever seen the film and recalls the scene with the twin girls calling to the young protagonist Danny Torrance.
The laughter ends the moment you are on the other side of this prank, because that's something that would make us swear off hotels forever.
