It's iceberg season, and if you happen to be in various parts of the world, you can see them appear in astounding sizes off the Atlantic coast.

The Independent introduces us to Ferryland's (Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada) newest landmark-albeit a temporary fixture.

It's a massive iceberg that has made a dramatic cameo, enabling locals and tourists a rare photographic treat:

If watching floating ice is your thing and that fountain drink you are enjoying just isn't cutting it, then head north.

The Independent reminds that this particular town boasts a fantastic view of what has been known as Iceberg Alley. Giant frozen water enthusiasts can confidently flock here from spring to September to snap amazing images of huge blocks of ice.

It's like walking past the freezer aisle at your grocery store but a bit more adventurous.

Weather patterns and good ol' climate change mean the area is peppered with icebergs this year. The Independent explains that there has been 600 floating on by already whereas 687 took the trek into the Atlantic all of last season.

CTV News Atlantic quotes Ferryland Mayor Adrian Kavanagh: "It's a huge iceberg and it's in so close that people can get a good photograph of it. It's the biggest one I ever seen around here."

Said iceberg is about 46-meters tall, and as the reports state, it may have hit shallow water, which is great for tourists.

Ferryland offers a quaint but wholly remarkable experience. Some have offered that it's a pristine place to picnic over on TripAdvisor: "This is a beautiful destination for many reasons! The walk to the lighthouse is a bit steep on a gravel path but very worth it."

Another states: "It is a nice walk out the road to the lighthouse and the scenery is wonderful. If you can't get on the Ferryland Picnics reservation list consider packing your own lunch and have a picnic here."

There are myriad destinations around the world that pack a wallop of adrenaline-inducing fun, but there is something to be said for those places that allow us to exhale and enjoy the simple joys in life.

It just so happens that the prime place for such an experience now houses one ridiculously huge block of ice.
