One sensation that has swept across the photography world is the concept of photobombing, or the act of getting in a picture you were not originally supposed to appear. Some people make silly faces or do hand gestures, but the results are usually pretty entertaining.
A sea turtle near the Apo Island in the Philippines was tired of being left out of the fun.
According to self-proclaimed adventurer Diuvs De Jesus' blog, he and several of his friends were posing for a photograph at Apo Island, Negros Oriental, Philippines, when the green sea turtle breached the surface of the water and photobombed them.
The friends are snorkeling and swimming in a shallow region of the water that is also the area in which the endangered animals feed. As De Jesus' blog pointed out, "Apo Island in the Philippines is one of the world's best known community-managed Marine Protected Areas."
De Jesus shared an image of the turtle photobomber on Twitter:
Green sea turtles are one of the largest species of sea turtles and can grow up to 47 inches long and 400 pounds, according to the World Wildlife Fund. The WWF is also reporting the animal is endangered due to "overharvesting of their eggs, hunting of adults, being caught in fishing gear and loss of nesting beach sites."
As seen in the photo, the herbivore turtle meant no harm to the camera man despite giving him one of the dirtiest looks imaginable. If turtle looks could kill, though …
The image is a wonderful reminder that human beings and animals have to co-exist in the world, and it is up to us to make sure creatures like the green sea turtles continue to grow their population numbers and thrive in the wild.
