While inflation is slowing growth within the American hospitality industry, a new report from the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) found that 52 percent of travelers are expected to travel overnight for fun in the next four months, with 66 percent of Americans planning to stay overnight in a hotel.

The new survey, conducted by Morning Consult, asked over 2,200 Americans about their winter travel preferences and plans.

It seems the same amount of Americans are traveling over the holidays as last year: 32 percent of Americans are heading on overnight trips for Thanksgiving, with another 34 percent heading on overnight trips during Christmas. Both are the same as last year.

Yet travelers are also more wary of inflation this year: 56 percent of respondents said inflation might reduce their chance of staying in a hotel. A range of 50-42 percent of travelers also reported that inflation may reduce their chance of paying for other important travel expenses, like staying overnight, traveling by plane or renting a car.

"Despite its many positive findings, this poll also underscores how the lingering effects of inflation continue to pose significant challenges for hoteliers and other travel-related businesses," said AHLA Interim President & CEO Kevin Carey. "Helping America's hotels reach their full economic potential hinges on extending and protecting pro-growth tax policies, growing the hotel workforce, and stopping onerous government regulations at every turn. That's exactly why AHLA will continue to fight for these issues."

Additionally, the report also found that 66 percent of Americans find sustainability important when they travel, and 57 percent report they’re more likely to stay in a hotel if it has a sustainability certification
