Guests staying at the Aloft Boston Seaport and Aloft Santa Clara can now personalize their in-room experience using only their voice.
The Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide brand unveiled the first-ever voice-activated hotel room this week, introducing a custom iPad app that allows guests to adjust the room temperature, turn lights on and off, play music and control other aspects of their stay through "Hey Siri" and HomeKit-enabled accessories.
How It Works
When a guest checks into their hotel room they will find an iPad featuring the custom Aloft app. After launching the app guests will be directed to a welcome screen that will walk them through the setup process. From there, guests can begin using Siri to personalize various aspects of their room.
The in-room iPad will then reset, and the guest's personal settings will be erased.
What It Can Do
Aloft's voice-activated hotel room will allow guests to adjust their room temperature by saying "Hey, Siri, cool the room" to their desired temperature or "Hey Siri, warm the room" to the temperature they prefer.
Guests can also ask Siri to turn lights on and off or select one of several preset options, including standard, evening, morning and movie theater.

When content with the lighting, guests can request Siri to play their favorite music track or playlist by signing into their iTunes account on the iPad.
In addition to making changes inside their room, guests can use the feature to surf the web and check the weather before they head outside. The feature also serves as a virtual concierge for guests with questions about the area.
"Today's early adopter, hyper-connected global traveler wants a level of personalization unlike ever before, and that means being able to control their hotel experience with the sound of their voice," said Aloft Hotels' Global Brand Leader Brian McGuinness in a statement.
In her own statement, Aloft Hotels' Vice President of Global Guest Initiatives & Innovation Sarah Downing said "the new Aloft Voice Activated Hotel Rooms are going to change the way that our guests interact, literally, with their room during their stay with us."
