A transformation is underway at the Four Seasons Resort Langkawi.
The award-winning property, located in a UNESCO beach haven in Malaysia, is aiming to create a new level of modern luxury and indulgence.
The effort is being supervised by designer Bill Bensley and will include the resort's signature color scheme shifting from earthen tones to a palette of bold and vibrant blues, adding further drama to the backdrop of beaches, rainforest, and cliffs provided by the surrounding 550-million-year old Langkawi UNESCO Geopark.
"Until now, the design of Four Seasons Resort Langkawi was all about blending into its incredible natural setting, flanked by the Andaman Sea, ancient limestone cliffs and luscious rainforest," the resort's General Manager David Macklin, said in a statement. "Our new design continues to celebrate this awe-inspiring backdrop but makes the resort itself the star of the show."
"The effect is breathtaking and adds a contemporary twist to the resort's popular Malaysian and Moorish themes," added Macklin.
The resort's 68 Malay-style guest pavilions have been reimagined to reflect Bensley's modern eclectic style. Airy rooms showcase trademark accents of blue, bespoke art and objects d'art. There are also revived teak floors and antique mirror inlays.
Four Seasons Resort Langkawi also recently unveiled three new Deluxe Family Beach Villas with Plunge Pool and two new Three Bedroom Garden Villas with Pool. Each offers families with teens or multi-generational groups the space needed.
The property's two main pools were also part of the renovation effort. The 180-foot Adult Quiet Pool offers striking sea views, while the Family Pool is made up of several multi-tiered pools located among frangipani trees and red sealing wax palms.
All of the restaurants at the resort will also be part of Bensley's redesign. Kelapa Grill, a toes-in-the-sand beach grill restaurant and the Mediterranean restaurant Serai will be refreshed while the Malay restaurant Ikan Ikan will receive a completely new look with interactive grilling stations.
One last notable detail, a floating jetty has been added to the property to facilitate access to water sports and mangrove safari boats for guests of all ages.
"Bensley's reimagining of Four Seasons Resort Langkawi is characteristically edgy and artistic," Macklin adds. "It perfectly complements the property's mix of village-style architecture and Moorish influences and is wildly impressive in both the overview and detail."
The transformation is due for final completion by late-2018.
