There's a hotel boom in progress, with every region of the world seeing a significant increase in the number of lodging units, particularly in the luxury sector.
Rosewood Hotels is notable for its expansion, with several openings around the world in 2018. There are also plenty of others to get excited about from some of the most tried-and-true luxury hotel brands.
I've listed a few of the more eye-catching ones here. These are all planned to open in 2018, although it's important to bear in mind that hotel opening dates can sometimes be nebulous.
At any rate, there will be plenty to watch during the coming year for lovers of luxury accommodations:
Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel Athens
In the heart of the sun-baked Athens Riviera-close to the excitement of the city but secluded 30 minutes away on a sunny peninsula surrounded by private beaches-this luxury hideaway will offer an expansive spa, multiple pools and eight restaurants, lounges and bars, including the latest Nobu outpost.
Guests can venture into Athens to behold the wonders of antiquity, poke around the shops and tavernas of the neighboring hamlet of Vouliagmeni or have the concierge arrange a launch from the nearby marina to visit surrounding islands and the Temple of Poseidon.
Rosewood Hong Kong
Headquartered in Hong Kong since its sale from the original American owners, Rosewood Hotels & Resorts will finally open a "hometown" property with the Fall 2018 opening of the Rosewood Hong Kong.
Occupying 27 floors of a new mixed-use development that straddles 3 million square feet of prime waterfront in Tsim Sha Tsui on Kowloon, the property will offer a mix of short- and long-term stay units along with eight dining options. Guest rooms, residences and public spaces will occupy 43 floors of the new 65 story tower.
The St. Regis Amman
Jordan will welcome its first St. Regis Hotels property in 2018 with the opening of the St. Regis Amman.
Currently slated for May, it is planned to offer 260 guestrooms and serviced apartments in a multi-tower complex surrounding a central courtyard for an arrival experience which will frame views of the capital. Guests can enjoy the hotel's convenient location close to the country's vaunted historical sites, world-class shopping and St. Regis signature services, which the brand has spent more than a century perfecting.
Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia at Comcast Center
The statue of William Penn atop Philadelphia's city hall was the high water mark for the city's skyscrapers until 1987. When the Comcast Center is completed this fall, it will be more than twice as high.
The hotel will occupy floors 48-56 providing commanding views of the city to the 217 minimalist designed rooms that include 38 suites. The entire hotel will float above the city with a 60th-floor sky lobby and a penthouse restaurant. Back on earth, but no less lofty, will be a street-level restaurant and function space.
Rosewood Miramar Beach Montecito
Home to a laundry list of the Hollywood elite, Montecito, California is also the site of a repurposing of the former Miramar Beach Hotel, a 100-year community landmark.
The property will be the first in Santa Barbara to offer beachfront suites allowing direct guest access to the Pacific Ocean beach from room accommodations. Many of the 37 suites are single story cottages or bungalows, in addition to the 124 guest rooms, a members-only beach club, spa, two swimming pools, an oceanfront bar and restaurant with outdoor terrace.
Raffles Singapore
Following an extensive refresh to Singapore's landmark property, home of the Singapore Sling cocktail and more than a century's worth of memories, this grand dame in the tropical Asian city-state will reopen during the second half of 2018 with rejuvenated suites, many of which are designed for extended residences.
The hotel's public spaces will also be refreshed and, after reopening, they will allow guests to experience the colonial heritage building with opportunities to learn the recipe for the hotel's signature cocktail in the updated Long Bar.
