Skiing with the masses is for commoners.
At the little known Silverton Mountain, a highly exclusive, private ski club in southeastern Colorado, the slopes are reserved for a mere 80 guests per day, according to Bloomberg.
But it gets better.
If you're willing to pony up $14,000, the resort's entire 1,819 acres can be reserved solely for you.
And when dropping $14,000, what's another $900? For that extra sum, you can also get a helicopter and access to 29,000 acres of backwoods.
According to the Bloomberg report, members of the public can make reservations at the Silverton to secure one of the prized 80 slots per day. (But they sell out months in advance.)
And if a big spender comes along and decides to pay $14,000 to book the entire place, day-pass holders will be bumped to another day, with compensation for the inconvenience.
If all of this sounds a bit too elitist, you may be alone in your disdain.
Silverton is just one example of a growing trend-membership based skiing clubs, several of which allow for renting the entire mountain. Bloomberg also reported that Vermont's Hermitage Club allows members to rent the 194-acre mountain for $60,000 per day. Colorado's Cimarron Mountain Club meanwhile, offers only 15 memberships at $3.2 million each.

What does one get exactly for $3.2 million? A 35-acre property where you may build a ski home and unlimited guided or snowcat skiing on 2,000 surrounding acres.
The trend can apparently be traced back to The Yellowstone Club, in Montana. Opened in 1999, the club's 2,200 acres are reserved for owners of 864 properties on the mountain, according to the Bloomberg article. The properties range in price from $3.15 million to $25 million, a figure that does not include the $300,000 sign-up fee and $39,500 in annual dues.
All of which makes skiing with hundreds, if not thousands of others, seem suddenly far more budget-friendly, if perhaps less appealing.
