Rosewood Mayakoba, arguably one of Mexico's most iconic ultra-luxury resorts, will be shuttered for two weeks in September while it undergoes a $1.5 million facelift that will add four two-bedroom Mayakoba suites and enhance existing suites and dining venues.
The resort will close on Sept. 7 and reopen on Sept. 22.
"At Rosewood Mayakoba we are constantly reinvigorating the guest experience by introducing thoughtful details and innovative elements, so that our guests have a reason to come back again and again," said Daniel Scott, managing director of Rosewood Mayakoba.
The new two-level two-bedroom Mayakoba Suites will feature a master bedroom and bath on the ground level and a second bedroom, bathroom with rain shower, living room and outdoor terrace with plunge pool on the second level. An exterior spiral staircase connects guests to the rooftop for panoramic views of the verdant 1,600-acre resort complex that Rosewood Mayakoba shares with the Fairmont Mayakoba and Banyan Tree Mayakoba.
The outside areas of the resort's Beachside Lagoon View Suites, meanwhile, will be reconfigured with the addition of two-person hammocks, chaise lounges and dining tables. The suites will also be outfitted with large double showers.
Beachfront Studio Suites will be the recipients of outdoor rain showers.
On the culinary front, a deck will be added to Casa del Lago for lunchtime outdoor dining. The Agave Azul Sushi Bar and Tequila Library will be refitted with an expanded kitchen and a new dining spaces at the lagoon level.
The refurbishment will also freshen Rosewood Mayakoba's lobby and walkways.
Late last year the resort unveiled La Ceiba Garden & Kitchen, a 20,000-foot al fresco restaurant, which offers guests interactive dining experiences, provides guests with interactive dining experiences that cooking demonstrations and tastings.
The resort is home to an 18-hole golf course designed by Greg Norman, which hosts Mexico's only PGA TOUR event.
An Andaz property is scheduled to open next year within the Mayakoba complex.
