25 Do's And Don'ts To Planning A Destination Bachelor Party

Do's And Don'ts

1/26

Your buddy is getting married and asked you to be the best man. Congratulations, that means you are a swell enough bloke to command the respect and admiration of another individual. Your gift is planning every last detail of what should be the best party of this man's life. Relax, because the stress should be gone by the time you read through this list of bachelor party tips.

Do Order Apps

2/26

You're about to corral a bunch of guys and take their money for things like accommodations, food and drinks. Don't go with cash or checks like this is the Medieval Ages, get with the times and demand the party use things like Venmo or PayPal. It will make things far easier as will other travel apps.

Don't Plan Surprises (OK, not too many)

3/26

Unless the groom is forever living life with one cheek on the edge of the seat, chances are pretty great that he doesn't want any surprises on his big weekend. The only thing he can hold onto, other than the inevitable toilet seat after a long night, is the comfort of expectations. Let him bask in that.

Do Make It A Hotel Block Party

4/26

Whether it's just a party of two or a party of 20, you should probably splurge on a nice room. This may very well mean a suite that accommodates a bunch of guys. However, if you don't want to risk your adult stag night looking like a frat rager, it might be best to also book a block of rooms for overflow. This is especially good for parties over 15. Congrats on being that popular.

Do Give Plenty of Notice

5/26

Think about your most recent trip. You probably thought about it for a while before saving up for airfare, hotel accommodations and various future travel expenditures. Well, you're about to surprise a gaggle of guys with a must-attend trip. Make sure they are notified immediately. You don't even need details, just tell them to save the date...and money. This will let your party save before the festivities.

Don't Demand Attendance

6/26

This brings me to an important early lesson. Some people just can't swing the trip. It doesn't mean they don't love the groom or hate your awesome idea of running with the bulls. Prior obligations, financial difficulties and issues with oncoming bulls all factor into this. You and the groom need to understand.

Don't Mandate Attendance At Every Event

7/26

Your buddies may want to do something else during that golf side trip or the cabana pool party, especially if it means forking over extra cash. You will have far more people travel if they are given leniency during various party events.

Don't Forget Snacks At The Suite

8/26

Hit the supermarket. Make a Costco run. Bring food from home. The point is you and the majority of the party will need sustenance at some pretty weird hours. Stock up on croissants, chips or anything else that sounds good and would otherwise go straight to your hips. Some places lend themselves to more adventurous snacking than others.

Do Get A Hangover Cure

9/26

Besides a greasy breakfast and a nip from what ails you, our species is yet to find a cure for the common hangover. The best method happens to be getting strapped to a bag of wonderful fluids as if you are a car in for a tune-up. Some hotels even offer an IV therapy session so you don't have to outsource this blessing of modern convenience.

Do Go With Honesty

10/26

Be up front with the groom from the start. Does he want a luxurious destination soiree? Awesome, do it. It will be an amazing trip. Just make sure you remind him that the party may be smaller than something closer to home. Consider yourself an impromptu travel agent, one that will also guarantee he gets drunk at his pre-wedding shindig.

Do Sprinkle in Sobriety

11/26

Unless your groom really wants to get sauced at the pool or golf course during the day, remember that the night will be a precarious prospect if you day drink. Which brings me to this important tip, drink sporadically. I know, it sounds ludicrous. Trust that you will have an amazing time if you actually get to the main event instead of passing out at six in the afternoon.

Do Keep Away From The Wedding Date

12/26

You will need to time to lose the bags under your eyes, allow any cuts and bruises to heal and lose the extra five-10 pounds you gained in two days. And so will the groom. Then again, you can always just eat better during the trip.

Do Supply Alcohol

13/26

Keep the good stuff for the betrothed. But do make sure there is some sort of libation lying about the suite. Yes, I said you should keep drinking to a minimum. But you definitely need to have the option available at all times.

Do Ask For Help

14/26

Don't be a fiscal hero. The guys will be more than willing to chip in a little for more beer or bring a case to the party. Never turn down an offer, you will need it later.

Don't Go Too Big Early

15/26

This is your one time to shine as a party planner. (Apologies if you didn't dream about this moment when you were little. The job is yours, so make the best of it.)

Don't go too big too early. Let people come into town and settle before having the big dinner. It sometimes works best on night two.

That brings me to...

Do Have a Dinner

16/26

There's at least one moment everyone can attend and feel like they made it to the main event. Your groom can see everyone in one place and do so before he blacks out for the night. And if you keep things outdoors you don't run the risk of breaking anything.

Don't Drink And Drive

17/26

OK, you have two rules. The least important is to make sure the groom is having fun. The more important is that everyone is accounted for ride wise. Take care of that before the night gets started and then you can get hammered. Keep it simple and make sure your destination is Uber friendly.

Do Get The Groom His Privacy

18/26

The groom is going to share the next several decades with someone else in his room and in his bed - during hot nights when he just wants to spread out with the fan on and on cold nights when he just wants to curl up with Netflix on his phone. Let him enjoy the luxury of his own room one more time.

Do Immortalize The Moment

19/26

Take pics and live out your own "The Hangover" pre-credit scene as you scroll through all the debauchery. Just make sure you check with the groom as to what's OK to share on social media. Then get carried away as you capture the moments.

Do Cover The Costs

20/26

Unless the groom insists or does so of his own accord, you and the party should throw this shindig. It doesn't mean you pay for everything as the best man, as things are getting expensive. Share the burden with his other mates however it makes sense. The groom is about to make it rain at the wedding. Let him off for his party.

Do Handle the Business

21/26

One of the guests acting up? Is someone far too drunk to make it to the club? Whatever problem arises, it's your duty to take care of. Again, congrats. You are the designated parent for the weekend.

Don't Over Schedule

22/26

I know you want to play paintball, golf, beer crawl, watch a game, gamble and ride ATVs in the desert. But there is only so much you can do. Sometimes the best memories come from organically hanging out.

Do Speak With the Groom About Entertainment”

23/26

The second you got the call to plan the bachelor party you probably envisioned an opportunity to plan your own party replete with your own favorite vices. Run it by the boss, because he may not be into the all-you-can-drink/smoke/ingest outing. Or, yes, he may want to skip the strip club in lieu of something more his speed.

Don't Get More Drunk Than the Groom

24/26

Obviously, this is the perfect chance to have the time of your life as well. You planned this excursion, so live it up. However, it goes without saying, so I'll type it instead, you need to take care of the groom or delegate the duty if you have to step away. The last thing you want to do is misplace the guy who is going to get married shortly.

Do Consider a Rewards Card

25/26

Whether you are getting reimbursed from the fellow party goers are not, you are surely going to plunk down a sizable lump sum on the hotel, club and/or restaurant. Let this be an opportunity to make the money work for you. Of course, we have your back on how to get started.

What Happens At The Party Stays At The Party

26/26

While I'm sure you'll simply be playing chess and planning place settings for the wedding all weekend, you would do well to keep any further explanation of the trip's festivities to a simple, "We had a great time." Loose lips sink ships and, perhaps, make for awkward conversations at the wedding.
