Crystal Cruises has shared a message amid the ongoing Houthi rebel attacks on vessels in the Red Sea. So far, the cruise line's leaders have not canceled or adjusted any itineraries, but they say they are watching the situation closely.
"Crystal remains committed to prioritizing the safety and well-being of our guests and crew," according to the statement. "We understand the evolving dynamics and are actively monitoring the situation, maintaining open communication with relevant authorities and security firms to make informed decisions."
Staffers are "diligently working to create alternate itineraries, recognizing the potential need to make adjustments should the need arise to cancel voyages that transit the Red Sea."
The line also vowed to keep guests informed of any changes.
"Once a final decision is made, we will immediately notify all guests who may be impacted," according to the statement. "Guests and crew can rest assured that any necessary adjustments will be handled thoughtfully."
Many travelers are currently onboard Crystal Serenity during a world cruise. Though the line did not mention any specifics, it did say that any adjustments to that itinerary would not affect the vessel's ability to reach Miami on June 8.
Other cruise lines have canceled some voyages to avoid possible missile strikes from the Houthis, an Iranian-backed political and military group. Last week, MSC Cruises announced it would be scrapping three repositioning itineraries in April. Silversea Cruises has also canceled several January sailings in the region, reports USA Today. So far, Costa Cruises has not changed any of its upcoming Red Sea cruises, per Reuters.
Shipping companies are also altering their routes.
