MSC's Ocean Cay To Temporarily Close in the Spring

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, the private island owned by MSC Cruises, will close temporarily next spring.

Visits to the island will be paused from April 7 through May 22, according to a TravelWeekly report.

During that time, the cruise line intends to make enhancements to the island in order to prep it for continued growth.

Guests whose upcoming MSC Cruises itineraries included a stop at Ocean Cay are now being contacted by travel advisors to discuss updated itineraries and travel options.

In particular, four ships will be impacted by the planned closure of Ocean Cay. That includes the MSC Divina, MSC Seascape, MSC Seashore and MSC Meraviglia.

Each of the ships will handle the island’s temporary closure differently. For instance, MSC Divina and Seascape will replace Ocean Cay with another Caribbean port but the remainder of the itineraries for the two ships will be unchanged.

The MSC Seashore will also replace Ocean Cay with a new Caribbean port but may also change sailing dates and departures. Lastly, the MSC Meraviglia will change things up entirely, offering Canada/New England sailings instead of the Caribbean during the impacted time frame.

Ocean Cay is a special location. It has been named a "Hope Spot" by the non-profit organization Mission Blue. It is part of a network of 154 Hope Spots that are recognized as critical to ocean health.
