Passengers aboard Norwegian
Cruise Line’s newest ship got a shocking surprise during dinner this week
when part of the ceiling suddenly came crashing down inside one of the vessel’s
popular dining spots.
The incident
happened May 14 aboard the recently launched Norwegian
Luna while the ship was sailing a seven-night Caribbean
itinerary out of Miami,
Cruise
Hive reported.
According to one
passenger’s video of the accident, posted to TikTok,
a large ceiling panel collapsed inside The Local Bar & Grill, the ship’s only
complimentary 24-hour restaurant, located on Deck 8.
“This [was] the
scariest experience my fiancé and I have had,” the guest wrote. “We
were having a meal at the Local Bar and Grill in the world’s newest cruise ship, Norwegian
Luna, which first sailed last month, when the roof panels fell on us while
eating.”
The TikTok user
said she immediately ran out of the eatery after the collapse, but her fiancé
stayed behind to assist other guests who were reportedly trapped beneath parts
of the fallen ceiling panel.
Other images
circulating online appeared to show broken ceiling fragments fallen across
dining tables and seating areas, while crew members and guests gathered around
the area in the immediate aftermath.
In a statement given to
Cruise Hive, Norwegian Cruise Line confirmed that multiple passengers received
medical attention on board after the incident.
“On May 14, 2026,
an isolated incident involving a ceiling panel occurred in a guest area
onboard. As a result, a small number of guests were evaluated and treated by
the ship’s medical team for minor injuries,” the spokesperson said.
The cruise line
did not specify how many guests were injured or provide details about the types
of injuries they sustained. However, the company said the affected area was
temporarily shut down for repairs, and a review was conducted.
“Out of an
abundance of caution, the area has been temporarily closed while repairs and a
review are completed. The safety of our guests and crew is always our top
priority. Our team is in touch with the affected guests to assist them,” Norwegian
Cruise Line told the outlet.
When the incident
occurred, Norwegian Luna was approaching the end of a Caribbean voyage that
departed Miami on May 9, stopping in the Dominican Republic, St. Thomas and the
British Virgin Islands before returning to Miami on May 16.
The
3,565-passenger Norwegian Luna officially entered service when it was christened
in Miami on March 27, 2026, making it one of the industry’s newest vessels.
