Carnival Cruise Line announced Monday the transformed Carnival Radiance will be the first ship in the company's fleet to feature the new Big Chicken restaurant created by Chief Fun Officer and NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal.
The Big Chicken restaurant will offer a variety of fried chicken sandwiches and fries that are included in the cruise fare price. The new eatery will be one of the many food options that will debut following the ship's $200 million refurbishments, which will be completed by 2020.
In late October, O'Neal opened his first land-based Big Chicken restaurant in Las Vegas.
"Shaq has brought so much to our brand as Chief Fun Officer and we are always looking for ways to expand on this wonderful relationship and provide our guests with new ways to Choose Fun," Carnival president Christine Duffy said in a statement. "Knowing his passion for food and fun, we're thrilled to work with Shaq to bring the first Big Chicken at sea aboard the totally transformed Carnival Radiance."
The new restaurant will be located aft on Lido Deck of the Carnival Radiance, and the sandwiches offered will be adorned with playful monikers inspired by Shaq. The establishment will also offer breakfast choices, including chicken and egg biscuits.
Some of the other new culinary and beverage offerings available on the Carnival Radiance will include Guy Fieri's Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse, the Fahrenheit 555 classic American steakhouse, the Cucina del Capitano family-style Italian restaurant and the Caribbean-inspired RedFrog Pub.
Carnival is also adding a new WaterWorks aqua park and a SportSquare open-air recreation complex with a suspended ropes course. The revamped ship's itinerary and homeport details will be announced soon.
