The following Raging Waters commercial from 1991 promises wet, wild fun with the nuance of Vanilla Ice and the understated class of Zubaz pants.
It's time once again to take a brief look back at the glorious past in travel. For those who like this sort of stuff, consider taking a glance at our previous Throwback Thursday posts such as the one where we enjoyed Captain EO anew or reminded you that Kingdom of the Dinosaurs was a thing.
This week we attempt to take a break from the heat by taking a closer look at San Jose's liquid landmark known as Raging Waters.
According to the following diamond in the YouTube rough, this is what poor youngsters in the area were subjected to in the early 90s:
Now we don't have much information aside from what YouTube user FrancisH702 provides: "This Raging Waters commercial played all summer long in 1991 on KNTV Channel 11 & Hot 97.7 FM."
Essentially, this is the commercial equivalent of finding your eighth grade pictures in some box in the garage.
That haircut you rocked at the time certainly seemed like a great idea at the time, but the years do not agree.
We guess the only problem with that sentiment is it's hard to believe anyone thought this was a generally nifty idea.
The last thing we would want to do is hang out anywhere recommended by these guys.
Yet, here it is. Like a visual slammer into your respective pog eyes, a man dressed up like every grandpa on a tropical vacation starts to rap with the pace of Sugarhill Gang and the rhymes of Dora the Explorer: "Raging Waters, that is the place. Feel the cool refreshing waters splashing in your face."
Thankfully, the video does deliver a ditty that allows you to remember the proper way to spell the theme park's name.
We are just sad we never got the chance to witness the magic that was that Lip Sync contest.
