Puerto Rico's storied Dorado Beach, Ritz-Carlton Reserve is set to reopen its doors in October, marking a significant recovery milestone for the hurricane-battered island.
The property, a rare estate set apart from the rest of the destination, will be the first ultra-luxury resort to welcome guests back to the island after the devastation caused in 2017 by a string of hurricanes.
Newly expanded facilities at Dorado Beach will showcase thoughtful design and handcrafted touches aimed at amplifying the natural beauty of the surrounding environment, according to a statement issued by Marriott International, whose portfolio includes Ritz-Carlton.
Each of the resort's 114 beachfront guestrooms will reopen with an enhanced and reimagined color palette.
The sprawling grounds at the Puerto Rico property will include an additional 300,000 new flora and fauna.
"October 2018 marks an exciting next chapter in the legendary history of our Reserve. I am extraordinarily proud of our ladies and gentlemen, who have lovingly restored our treasured property with the same heartfelt care they show our guests," George Sotelo, general manager of Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, said in a statement. "We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back to Dorado Beach as well as introducing the Reserve to a whole new set of guests experiencing the property for the first time."
Su Casa, the property's unique five-bedroom villa, which was originally home to the historical figure Clara Livingston, is being fully modernized for discerning travelers while retaining its unique character and appeal.
There will also be fresh and innovative dining concepts at the reopened property from its acclaimed culinary team. The Dorado Beach's signature restaurant and bar is being reimagined with an exciting new concept scheduled to debut in mid-November.
Meanwhile, the family-friendly poolside restaurant, Encanto Beach Club Bar & Grill, will offer a new, distinctive dinner menu of coastal cuisine, highlighting fresh seafood and authentic dishes from the Mediterranean.
The property's chic beachside restaurant, Positivo Sandbar, is preparing to debut a highly anticipated Omakase & Ceviche Bar, situated on the beach.
For guests who wish to connect with the local culture through food, La Cocina Culinary Center will continue to host cooking classes and private dinners while expanding on its popular Fresh Market concept.
The Reserve's acclaimed Forbes Five Star Spa Botánico is also being fully revitalized with a focus on the needs of modern luxury travelers. In addition to a bespoke locally-inspired treatment menu and unique handcrafted products that are made in the on-site apothecary, the facility will include a new spa cuisine concept to elevate the wellness experience.
The second Ritz-Carlton Reserve in the world and the first in the Western Hemisphere, the property made its original debut in December 2012.
It is located on 1,400 acres that were part of the former Laurance Rockefeller estate.
