A longtime LAX icon that has hosted numerous dignitaries and celebrities is ready to usher in a new age of travel.

Opened in 1973 and one of the flagship hotels in Marriott's portfolio, the Los Angeles Airport Marriott has completed a $44 million transformation, reemerging as a stylish, ultramodern hub where travelers can make an authentic Los Angeles connection.

The redesigned property includes newly added high-tech and high-touch services, new spaces and one-of-a-kind amenities.

Among the hotel's exciting new additions is the 4,000-square-foot M Club Lounge. Located on the 18th floor, the space features floor to ceiling windows providing panoramic views of the Hollywood Hills, downtown Los Angeles, and the runways. It was designed for Elite Marriott Rewards members as an area to work or recharge and is to be open 24-hours a day.

M Club offerings include individual workstations, a business center and printing station, and chef-crafted culinary offerings ranging from a complimentary breakfast buffet to evening hors-d'oeuvres. There's also a full-service bar serving local craft beers and curated libations.

Guests who are not Elite Rewards members can access the space by booking an M Club Room.

The LAX Marriott's 984 guest rooms and 20 suites, meanwhile have been modernized and re-fashioned with a stylish, mid-century design, resort-style bedding, soundproof windows for uninterrupted sleep. The rooms also include 55- inch Smart TVs with access to Netflix, Hulu and TED Talks, multiple locations to charge electronic devices, large desks, and oversized chairs.

For the many high-rollers that pass through LAX, there's a new 1,554 square foot Presidential Suite offering the ultimate elite experience including large glass windows overlooking Los Angeles, a living room featuring an ultra-modern bar, entertainment room with 4K TV, oversized chairs, luxurious bathroom with spa-style shower, and plush king-bed in a separate bedroom.

"It's an exciting time for travel in Los Angeles," Jeff Hart, LAX Marriott general manager said in a statement. "Now with two NFL teams calling the city home, planned metro line expansions from LAX Airport, extensive airport modernizations, as well as the slated 2022 Super Bowl and 2028 Summer Olympics, the city is evolving to meet the needs of the modern traveler, and concurrently so is our hotel. We're paving the way for a new generation of travel, challenging the status quo, and re-defining what it means to be an airport hotel."

Additional noteworthy details at the property include a new Great Room designed to serve as a grand gathering space. The room includes a collection of premium outlets, bar, full-service Starbucks, and stylish alcoves for both work and play.

Several new culinary and beverage concepts have also been created to showcase and explore the diverse flavors of the property's host city while capturing its unique spirit.

The re-conceptualized Hangar 18 (previously Champions Bar & Grill) for instance, will serve as the spirited hub of the Great Room, and features 41 4K TVs, craft beer, intriguing cocktails and delicious bites.

Social Market & Eatery (previously Latitude 33), has been designed as a tribute to the city's farmer's markets, providing breakfast and dinner service for guest to sample local flavors and California-inspired fare.

JW's Steakhouse is reopening after a refresh, showcasing locally-sourced steaks, sustainable seafood and a Wine Spectator award-winning wine list, all surrounded by an open-atmosphere kitchen.

And one final noteworthy detail - the hotel's refreshed pool.

Located outdoors, beneath the hotel's "wave of balconies" that give the appearance of an ocean wave (an Instagram-favorite locale), Marriott has created a tropical, resort-style pool area. A one-of-a-kind among LAX airport-area hotels, the resort-style pool is now accented by palm trees and lush greens providing natural shade, as well as a large whirlpool
