Marriott’s The Luxury Collection has launched new Expeditions, which take travelers far beyond the hotel or resort and into the heart of the destination.
The Luxury Collection Expeditions build upon the portfolio’s focus on culture and place. Each journey is either private and self-paced, or led by an artisan, historian, conservationist or other expert local guide, who will take guests on an immersive experience they can only enjoy in that destination.
The expeditions fall into three categories. The first is Private Tailored Journeys, multi-day, personalized trips that combine stays at The Luxury Collection hotels with private transport, cultural access and more.
“At The Luxury Collection, we have long believed that a destination reveals itself through its people, rituals, and landscapes, and through the knowledge passed down over time,” said Bruce Rohr, Vice President and Global Brand Leader, The Luxury Collection. “Expeditions are a natural expression of that belief, inviting our guests to venture beyond the walls of their hotel and into the living fabric of a place, where expert guidance and cultural context foster a deeper and more personal understanding of a destination.”
One such trip is Japan: The Imperial Journey, a 10-day, three-destination trip across Tokyo, Kyoto and Nara. Along the way, travelers will learn how to make sushi from a fourth-generation master, enter a samurai residence, enjoy a monk-led temple tour and more, all while staying in luxury hotels along the way.
Those who’d like to tailor most of their own trips but enjoy a little expedition can enjoy a Day Discovery. This day-trip style offering highlights a specific craft, culinary focus or cultural practice.
One such Day Discovery is Desert Icons: A Private Journey Through Living Legacy. Offered only at The Phoenician, A Luxury Collection Resort, Scottsdale, the experience includes a private-led tour of the Desert Botanical Garden, including access to its rarely seen seed bank, greenhouse, and herbarium, followed by a visit to Taliesin West, concluding with a farm-to-table desert dinner at The Phoenician.
Lastly, Residencies & Collaborations are limited-time experiences that connect guests with leading scientists, cultural voices, conservationists, winemakers and more. Shared learning and workshop experiences connect travelers with something special, whether that means learning how to make Rioja in Spain or joining marine biologists on a coral reef research expedition at Salterra, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, South Caicos.
The Luxury Collection is currently offering ten new Expeditions across its portfolio of 130 hotels and resorts worldwide, with more to come this autumn.
