Xcaret Park and the three Xcaret hotel properties, Hotel Xcaret Mexico, La Casa de la Playa and Hotel Xcaret Arte, will be celebrating the Mexican holiday, el Dia de los Muertos, with its 17th annual Festival of Life and Death Traditions, going on October 30 through November 3 at each location.
The festival shines a spotlight on the Mexican state of Querétaro this year. The five-day festival will boast performances by Mexican singer and three-time Grammy Award Winner, Natalia Lafourcade, along with performances and parades by Grupo Aztlán, the student band from the Autonomous University of Querétaro, Grupo Bohemio, Grupo Xaha, Trio Queretanas and Trio Gallardia Huasteca.
Visitors can also enjoy local crafts workshops, from chocolate making to embroidery to ceramics and other local handicrafts and foods.
A dedicated children’s area will offer kids a fun space to learn about Day of the Dead traditions with puppet shows, theater presentations and kid-friendly workshops.
As part of the Day of the Dead celebrations, the festival will offer three large altars and the park will be decorated in the traditional style of the festival. Over 62,000 visitors are expected to visit the park for the celebration.
“The Festival of Life and Death Traditions is one of the most cherished celebrations in Xcaret, and it is an honor to share with the world our traditions dedicated to honor the dead, recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO,” said Ileana Rodríguez, Director of Sustainability and Institutional Relations for Xcaret. “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the bearers of these traditions, who will share their customs with our visitors."
