The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

5/26
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre took advantage of some creepy locations in Texas and today two of those locations are keeping the film alive. The rangers of Seneca Creek State Park welcome fans and have offered hikes to filming locations like Coffin Rock. As far as Burkittsville goes, the crew filmed at the local cemetery. True fans should partake in the annual "Blair Witch Experience" in October which will take them to filming locations via a camping tour.

Hannibal

10/26
Hannibal Lecter of Hannibal may be one of the scariest serial killers of all time. Walk in Lecter's footsteps in Florence, Italy, at the Palazzo Capponi, in a cafe at Piazza della Repubblica and the Pharmacy of Santa Maria Novella. You'll find other set locations in Richmond, like Clarice's home on Park Avenue and Lecter's cell in the Virginia State Library. A few famous and recognizable destinations were used in Hannibal, including the Biltmore Estate as Mason Verger's home, Montpelier Estate for the last scene with the hogs and the carousel in Union Station in Washington D.C.

Scream

11/26
The hit film Scream forever made us realize how scary prank calls can be. Most of the film was shot in Santa Rosa, Healdsburg, Tomales and Sonoma, California. The Woodsboro High School is actually the Sonoma Community Center, and many of the town shots can be found in Healdsburg, such as the town square. Stu's house, the site of the 'killer' party scene, is on Spring Hill Estate in Tomales and can be rented for weddings or events.

Carrie

12/26
The horror film Carrie couldn't have been successful without the iconic school where Carrie was bullied and ultimately unleashed her power. Directors used multiple destinations to create Carrie's high school. The track and playing fields were from Pacific Palisades High School in Santa Monica, California, the front exterior was Morningside Elementary in San Fernando, California and the rest was shot at Hermosa Beach Community Center.

Poltergeist

13/26
The Freeling home of the horror hit Poltergeistcan be found in a neighborhood on Roxbury Street in Simi Valley, California. Though the home is private property, the owners probably won't be surprised to see fans taking selfies and gleefully exclaiming, "They're here." The Jack Langson Library of the University of California Irvine was the site of Dr. Lesh's office and the film's cemetery shots were taken around Medea Creek Park in Agoura Hills, California.

The Ring

14/26
While much of The Ring was shot in a Hollywood studio, some of the most iconic places in the movie can be found on the west coast. The creepy VHS tape that kills people in seven days came from the fictional Shelter Mountain Inn, which is actually Camp Firwood near Bellingham, Washington. Follow Rachel's road trip to uncovering Samara's story by visiting spots along her fictional route like Deception Pass Bridge, the Whidbey Island Ferry (where the horse leaps) and the Yaquina Head Lighthouse, used as the Moesko Island Lighthouse, in Newport, Oregon.

The Omen

15/26
The Omen was primarily shot in the U.K., even though there were some brief shots captured in Rome and Israel. Damien's family visited such spots as Parliament Hill, the Guilford Cathedral and Brookwood Cemetery's American Military section. See where Father Brennan preaches next to the River Thames in Bishop's Park in Fulham before visiting All Saints Church where he was struck by lightning. If you can make it to Rome, stop inside the Garden Museum which was used as the interior of the monastery where Father Spiletto lived.

The Strangers

16/26
The Strangers was filmed entirely on location in Florence and Timmonsville, South Carolina. Since the film primarily centers on strangers attacking other strangers in a vacation home, most of the filming was done on a 2,000-square-foot house that was built by the set crew in Florence. As for the exterior shots, the filmmakers used a brick ranch house they discovered on Oliver Road in Timmonsville. It's a private home, so you can't go on the property, but if you're driving by, you'll definitely recognize it.

It

17/26
Port Hope, Ontario, was transformed into the fictional town of Derry, Maine, for the It films of 2017 and 2019. The exterior of the Port Hope Town Hall was used as the Derry Library and the Port Hope Memorial Park was the site of the Paul Bunyan statue. Other parts of the film were shot in and around Toronto. For instance, interior shots of the creepy mansion in It was shot in the Cranfield House in Riverdale and the infamous sewer grate scene was filmed at a grate near Springmount Avenue and William Street in Toronto's Weston area.

Interview with a Vampire

18/26
New Orleans has always been a hotbed for paranormal and supernatural stories so it makes sense that much of Interview with a Vampire was shot there. The Oak Alley Plantation was used for the exterior shot of Louis' estate, while the interior shots were done at Destrehan Plantation. Exterior shots were done along 700 to 900 Royal St., as well as at Madame John's Legacy. Of course, the entire film wasn't shot in New Orleans, but also included filming at the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and Paris' Palais Garnier.

Get Out

19/26
Get Out was a horrifying thriller filmed in Alabama. Most of the film was shot at a private home located at 6892 Heathcroft Lane in Fairhope, Alabama. The crew also made a stop in Mobile's Park Place district near Ryan Avenue and De Leon Avenue to film the opening abduction scene.

The Cabin in the Woods

20/26
Where is the cabin from in The Cabin in the Woods? Somewhere in Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park in British Columbia, Canada. Those scenes were shot at the Aerospace Technology Campus in Richmond, British Columbia, near the South Terminal of the Vancouver International Airport.

Nosferatu

21/26
Nosferatu may have been a silent horror film but it sure brought screams from audiences when it hit the big screen. Much of the film was shot in Lübeck and Wismar, Germany, like the Salzspeicher, or brick salt houses used as the fictional home of Count Orlok. However, some of the exterior shots like the 'mountains of Transylvania' were actually taken of the High Tatra mountains in Slovakia. The interior of Nosferatu's castle was filmed in the Pernstejn Castle in the Czech Republic.

Us

22/26
Who would have thought Santa Cruz, California, with its sunshine and laid-back atmosphere, would have been the set of a horror film? Jordan Peele wanted to see how horrifying he could make this seemingly normal town and he did just that in Us. Many parts of the film center on the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, though the Wilson's family house was shot in Pasadena and the lake scenes were at Lake Gregory in the San Bernardino National Forest.

Nightmare on Elm Street

23/26
See where Freddy tortured his Springwood, Ohio, victims in Nightmare on Elm Street by taking a trip to Los Angeles. The high school in the film is John Marshall High School in Silverlake. Surprising enough, the 5th Precinct in the film is the Cahuenga Branch Library in East Hollywood.

Paranormal Activity

24/26
It looks like a normal 4-bedroom, 2.5 bathroom house with a pool and patio in the suburbs of San Diego, but it is so much more. The home from Paranormal Activity is located in Rancho Penasquitos and was actually the home of the filmmaker, Oren Peli. Located on Bavarian Drive, the home looks just like any other on the street, which might be the scariest thing about it.

The Evil Dead

25/26
Morristown, Tennessee, is home to the cabin featured in the 1981 horror film, The Evil Dead. The cabin burned down and only pieces of the original structure remain on the private property it's located on. Candyman

26/26
If you're itching to say Candyman's name five times you're going to have to visit Chicago. Unfortunately, a lot of the buildings in the Cabrini-Green housing projects on Division Street, which were used in the film, have been torn down over the years. However, you can still see Helen's apartment at 1360 North Sandburg Terrace. A Candyman remake is currently underway, and word has it that filmmakers are returning to the Cabrini-Green area to film.
