Rail company Amtrak has teamed with the United States Department of the Interior to showcase the natural and cultural attractions that the National Park Service offers tourists.

To ensure travelers optimize their summer vacations, Amtrak is extending its 75 percent discount to fourth-graders, with the purchase of one regular adult fare. The discounted rate is part of the Every Kid in a Park initiative and is available through Aug. 31 for travel through Sept. 3.

The Every Kid in a Park initiative invites fourth graders to visit the program's website and obtain a pass for free entry for their families to more than 2,000 federally-managed lands and waters across the country.

Amtrak provides connections to more than 260 national park lands, monuments and historic sites, including Glacier, Grand Canyon and Yosemite national parks. Additional information to enhance the experience of tourists is available through the Amtrak and National Park Service Trails and Rails program.

To be part of Amtrak's Every Kid in a Park program, advance reservations require a minimum of three days prior to travel and seating is limited. The initiative is valid on all Amtrak services throughout its national network except Acela Express and Auto Train.

Amtrak continues to make changes and improvements, including a recent announcement that anyone can now subscribe to automated email or text message notifications about train schedules and delays. This is a change from previous rules that only allowed customers holding reservations or tickets to use the service.
