Holland America Line’s McKinley Chalet Resort in Alaska has been certified by the Marine Stewardship Council, one of the highest designations for seafood sustainability.
The resort, which is situated at the gates of Denali National Park on the shores of the Nenana River, is also offering new food and drink options at its two on-site restaurants. Guests can visit the resort during Alaska cruisetours offered by Holland America Line.
New menu items at Karstens Public House and Canyon Steakhouse include steamed mussels, smoked salmon chowder, seafood queso dip and alder-grilled sockeye salmon, among others.
Also new this summer at McKinley Chalet Resort, guests can sip Holland America Line’s exclusive De Lijn Gin, attend weekly “Life in Denali” educational talks and enjoy drinks from a portable outdoor bar while listening to live music.
Earlier this year, Holland America Line announced that it had achieved a pair of sustainable seafood certifications—one from the Marine Stewardship Council, and the other from the Aquaculture Stewardship Council. The certifications build off the line’s global fresh fish program, which brings fresh seafood from port to plate in 48 hours or less.
"We are proud to extend our promise of fresh, sustainable fish beyond our ships to our guests on cruisetours visiting Denali," says Michael Stendebach, vice president of the food, beverage and rooms division for Holland America Line. "Our culinary team at McKinley Chalet Resort has done a wonderful job furthering our industry-leading program with this certification and creating inspiring fresh seafood dishes in our restaurants."
