New Hotels & Resorts
New hotels and resorts are some of the most exciting stories we cover each month. This May, we covered four big new hotel announcements.
The first is a renovation and reopening. The Hyatt Zilara Cancun reopened in May following an extensive renovation adding new dining concepts, renovating public areas and improving the adults-only resort’s 310 suites.
Nest up is a new luxury resort and residence located in Turks & Caicos, expected to open sometime in 2029. The Anantara Turks and Caicos Resort & Residences will be located on North Caicos and feature a serene beachfront escape, with 78 residences and beachside villas and the brand’s signature commitment to wellness and wellbeing. Grupo Posadas will be opening five new hotels and resorts in Mexico, including a new Live Aqua-branded resort in Mexico City, opening later this year, and a Fiesta Americana resort on Isla Mujeres.
Lastly, Raffles Hotels & Resorts will open its first ski resort in 2028. The Raffles Courchevel will be located in northern France inside the Courchevel 1850 luxury alpine village. It will feature Raffles’ signature luxury style, with just 50 rooms and suites, two restaurants, a spa and more.
Inside the US Hospitality Industry
Two important reports from the American Hotel & Lodging Association came out in May.
The first is AHLA’s efforts to support and expand the H2B visa program in the United States, which plays a critical part in supplementing much-needed seasonal workers for hotels and resorts nationwide. AHLA went to Congress this month to advocate for it and several other priorities of the hospitality industry.
Additionally, a new survey from the AHLA found that 80% of hoteliers are reporting that FIFA World Cup bookings are below expectations, with only 25% to 30% of hoteliers reporting a positive rise due the global event. Hoteliers identified blocked event room cancellations, international travel barriers and rising costs as the top issues discouraging high hopes for FIFA’s tourism impact.
