The St. Regis Bora Bora is set for re-opening on June 14 with new updates and under the direction of a new team led by newly appointed general manager, Michael Schoonewagen. The revamped team includes new directors of food and beverage, spa and rooms. The St. Regis Bora Bora has been closed undergoing repairs following some minor damages it suffered after the passage of Cyclone Oli through French Polynesia last February.
During the process, the resort was upgraded in several ways. All of the pools were re-tiled. The pool at the resort's 13,000-square-foot Royal Estate been fitted with white glass paste tiles that reflect the color of the sky, and several other pools now have turquoise glass paste tiles that reflect the natural light. Guests lounging by the main pool area can now enjoy newly redesigned landscaping that includes a wooden deck facing the main beach area and new foliage, coral blocks and Polynesian art. All of the beaches on property were re-sanded and re-shaped to enhance their appearance, and the Royal Estate's private beach also received an extension. The Private Lagoonarium and other public ponds received marine alterations and now have new coral growth and fish species.
Schoonewagen brings a great deal of experience in five-star luxury hotel management, starting when his family owned a hotel in the south of France, and continuing into his hospitality management studies in Switzerland. He has worked in top establishments in Monte Carlo, St.-Tropez, Lyon, the Comores, Paris, Moscow, Madeira, the Algarve and Mauritius. He has also lived in South Africa, where he was born, as well as Madagascar and the Netherlands. Prior to joining the St. Regis Bora Bora, he was general manager at the Royal Mougins Golf, Resort and Spa in Mougins, France.
The St. Regis Bora Bora resort, opened in June 2006, marked the brand's first resort in French Polynesia. The 44-acre property offers St. Regis' personalized services and amenities, including 24-hour concierge and room service, and the legendary St. Regis Butler Service.
