We always like to hear reviews on applications that make life easier for travelers. So we were particularly pleased to hear anecdotal evidence that the Find My iPhone app not only works, but it can lead to quite the Internet yarn.

You see, Shelby Bonnie recently endured something familiar to many of you out there in the travel sphere.

He misplaced his iPad, which led to the assumption that it would be gone forever. Instead, the co-founder of website CNET decided to make Facebook lemonade out of this sour debacle in which he found himself.

Bonnie posted to the social media site his ongoing search for his iPad; something he presumed was lost at Fort Lauderdale Airport.

His rampant posts tell the classic tale of man loses, tracks and reunites with his iPad.

As Bonnie states, he may have lost his tablet when he stuffed it in the plane's seat back pocket.

A while later, the iPad was kicking up its feet at the Heartbreak Hotel in Memphis.

Now The New York Times spoke with Bonnie and confirmed how close the traveler was to getting the iPad back at the airport, as you can see above.

The report states: "By coincidence, Mr. Bonnie nearly bumped into his iPad on a short layover from the Bahamas. As he waited at Concourse C at the Fort Lauderdale airport for a flight back to his home in San Francisco, he saw on Find My iPhone that his iPad was on an airplane approaching Concourse C."

A distress signal on the app was indeed activated but failed to alert Bonnie to its specific whereabouts.

The search continues:

Bonnie eventually tracked the iPad and decided to send some balloons to the tablet's, um, babysitter.

Thankfully, there was a happy end to the tale.

The balloon scheme worked. As Bonnie states below, an unidentified woman came in and eventually gave the tablet back to lost and found, making specific reference to the balloon delivery.

And here are the two reunited:

Anyone with an iPhone or iPad has seen the Find My iPhone app lurking on its home screen.

Those who want to try it out can simply open the app, type in their log-in credentials and view their respective devices.

That should be enough to track your tablets and smartphones. However, getting them back if they are lost will take some imagination on your part.

We hear balloons work wonders when it comes to convincing your fellow traveler that its better to take a lost item to the proper authorities than it is to hold on to it.
