Little more than a year after its initial opening, Walt Disney World in Orlando announced on Thursday that its much-hyped ‘Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser’ experience will be closing its doors to guests permanently this coming autumn. In fact, its final departure is slated to take place from September 28-30, 2023.

‘Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser’ was conceived as a wholly-immersive, first-of-its-kind adventure for fans of the world-famous Lucasfilm franchise. Simulating a trip aboard an interplanetary cruise ship as it soars amid the constellations, Galactic Startcruiser combines components of a bespoke hotel stay with an ultra-engrossing themed environment, exploration of exotic cuisines, interactive live theatre (complete with beloved Star Wars character encounters and performances) and unrivaled opportunity for real-life role-playing experiences.

While a Galactic Starcruiser vacation package entitles guests to a two-night stay in onboard cabin accommodations, inclusive dining, endless exploration the ‘Halcyon’ starcruiser, side quests and secret missions, the price of their passage also includes transportation to ‘Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge’ on the outer-rim planet of Batuu, as well as admission to the rest of Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser made its much-anticipated debut in March 2022, with the starting price for two nights’ all-inclusive stay in standard cabin accommodations coming in at roughly $4,800 for two guests and $6,000 for four guests to a cabin.

In its statement, released today, Walt Disney World Resort wrote: “Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of our most creative projects ever and has been praised by our guests and recognized for setting a new bar for innovation and immersive entertainment. This premium experience gave us the opportunity to try new things on a smaller scale of 100 rooms, and we will take what we’ve learned to create future experiences that can reach more of our guests and fans.”

The resort said that guests who are already booked for voyages scheduled to depart on or after September 30 will be contacted to discuss their options and available vacation package modifications. The company has temporarily suspended customers’ ability to make new bookings aboard the Halcyon starcruiser until May 26, when reservations will reopen for available dates through September 28-30.

Disney World went on to say, “We are so proud of all of the Cast Members and Imagineers who brought Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser to life and look forward to delivering an excellent experience for guests during the remaining voyages over the coming months.”
