As Yoda might say, "Star Wars at Disney parks, more of them there will be."
Variety's Marc Graser (h/t Star Wars Underworld) reports news of the fantastic variety, stating that Disney theme parks will soon have far more Star Wars than you can shake a lightsaber at-at least, that's the latest scuttlebutt thanks to a conference call Disney's CEO held with analysts.
Graser writes, "The Walt Disney Co. plans for "a far greater 'Star Wars' presence" in its theme parks, company chief Bob Iger said Tuesday."
Imagine a glorious world wherein stormtroopers walk around selling churros, wampas clean Main Street, speeder bikes replace trolleys and we find that machine selling clam chowder bowls is exactly the droid we were looking for. Granted, this may be all my own version of how a renewed Star Wars presence should play out.
As some (Read: all) of you know, the Star Wars line of movies will get an Episode VII iteration on December 18, 2015, which gives Disney, a company that now owns the franchise, a wonderful opportunity to further expand the universe amid its own parks.
The plan, to offer more than just the "Star Tours" ride, will be further explained at some point in 2015.
Unfortunately, you will need the patience or clairvoyance of a Jedi to see what exactly Disney might offer just past the turnstiles in the future.
However, Dominic Jones of The Star Wars Underworld does kick off the rumor mill a bit: "Star Wars theme park expansion was heavily rumored several months back, however rumors have slowed down in recent months. A speeder bike ride was teased back at D23 in 2013 and reports have included that a Mos Eisley Cantina restaurant is in the works."
I would like to be the first person to apologize to any and all staff who have to work in any cantina, listening to this song for several eight-hour shifts a week.
There are only a few requests we have if Disney is listening: holochess with a Wookiee, a speeder-bike ride, a small Darth Vader cave like the one Luke Skywalker walked into on Dagobah and actual tauntauns visitors can ride. Thanks in advance.
Until 2015, always remember to let the Wookiee win, because they have been known to pull arms out of their sockets when they lose.
Actually, please belay the order for any and all Woookiees meandering about future Disney destinations.
